Okay, *blushes*. I must just be a country chick...I hear about MP3 Player and Ipods all the time, but WHAT in the heck are they? My mom doesn't have a clue...I think maybe they download music and are portable or somethin? If that's the case I'll have to get one. (There's only four cuase that's all HB will alow.) This was the only place I could think of to ask...where no one knows me. If I ever meet any of you I think I'll die on the spot. I'll be known as the girl who didn't know what a MP3 player or a Ipod was. *blushes again* PLEASE somebody tell me before I get embrarresed in public for being a complete nerd.

You are exactly right.. you take music from your computer drive and download it to the device, unhook the device and off you go! Its really nice because mine is the "ipod shuffle" which is the size of a stick of gum! It is perfect for jogging, dont even know I have it on me and the battery lasts forever!

I'll tell you, but only because (or maybe even in spite of the fact) that your Kailey in your sig pic is soooo cute.
They play music. Depending on how much memory you have they hold 100 songs to 1000s. You can download songs from itunes or lots of sites online, or you can copy your CDs to your computer, and then to the ipod. The general term for those (those are brand names) is an mp3 player.
I am not a techie, but I think that was a pretty good answer.
If anyone has any other comments, please clarify.

Don't worry about it!
An MP3 player is a portable music player. Kind of like a CD player, but much more compact and easier to carry, because otherwise you would have to carry the CD player AND your CD's...you download a music playing system on your computer, such as iTunes. You can buy music for usually .99c per song.
An iPod is Apple's version of an MP3 player. They are extremely popular becuase they keep getting better and better. It stores music, pictures, videos, clips and all that jazz, but the downside is is that they are rather expensive.
Hope this helps.

I've been looking at these as a potential gift to myself! Is the main difference between the Shuffle and the Nano that the shuffle doesn't allow you to pick the order that the songs play in?

EmilyMarie, there is a plug that you can plug into your computer and your iPod and it comes with the iPod. That;s how it gets on the iPod. It's all in my post..about iTunes. Thats where you download your music but it is sometimes costly.
And LindaL,
the only main difference is that you dont know what song your picking. You can pick which song you want, because you can skim through them, but you can't SEE. I don't know if I make a whole lot of sense. Sorry.

Lol, nope. But you can download from iTunes and you can stick any CD's you have in and they will go on your iPod.
There is this one thing I have called something like iTravel, I don't remember exactly but you plug it into the top of your iPod, its portable. Then you turn your radio station to the station it says in the manual it comes with and you can play the songs on your iPod onto the radio. Now, if someone else were to turn on the radio on that station, they wouldn't hear it. It's like your own little personal station, with the music YOU want. I love it.

Also, (to the member who asked about the difference between nano and shuffle ) the iPod shuffle carries much fewer songs than the Nano. The shuffle has 512 megabyes (1/2 gig) and carries about 120 songs. I don't know the exact memory of the Nano, but I think it carries 2-4 gigs, which translates to 500-1000 songs. The Nano also has a viewscreen menu (as opposed to no menu) and lets you store and look at pictures.
I, personally, have a Creative Zen Micro. I got it before the Nano came out, but am still very happy with it . It has 5 gigs, a nice menu, is still pretty tiny and is RED (I love red!). Plus it has better sound quality (supposedly - I can't tell the diff)
